WELCOME TO THE 2024 FLAG FOOTBALL REGISTRATION

The Flag Football program will be open to boys and girls from Pre-K through 6th grade. The Flag Football program will be administered by DSYSA and game-day operations will be run by Neighborhood Sports. Teams will all wear NFL branded team reversible jerseys.

DSYSA Football partners with Neighborhood Sports to make the season a success! Our flag program provides young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork. Players develop skills that will help them succeed on and off the field.

The game is 5v5 flag football and teaches the basic skills of footballrunning, passing, receiving and defending. Games involve non-contact rules that eliminate all forms of blocking and tackling. The program is played on a 50-yard playing field where participants may run or pass the ball. Teams start at their 5-yard line and have three downs to move the ball past midfield. Once a team has crossed midfield they receive a new set of three downs to score. Our league uses a modified version of the NFL Flag rules that has been adapted over several seasons of collaboration with Neighborhood Sports.

As you register, please keep in mind DSYSA Football is a volunteer-run organization that relies heavily on parent coaches. If you are interested, or maybe have questions regarding coaching, please reach out and we can help answer any questions you may have. Know that you are not alone, and we are here to help your season be a success! flagfootball@dsysa.org

DIVISIONS

Due to the growing size of this program, divisions will be broken into individual grade levels based on the current school year. Each player will register individually; however, they may request a coach or teammate through the registration process.  Coaching requests are not guaranteed, but they will be honored as best we can.  Players are encouraged to play with previous coaches and/or teammates to help build strong bonds and lasting memories.  Be sure to select that you will volunteer as a coach or assistant if you are interested.  Note that you may not request players as a coach.  Players' requests are granted on a first come first serve basis until teams are full.

Note that logistically we are only able to field 32 total teams for our Spring program.  With seven different divisions, we will cap each division at four teams and 40 players.  Additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist.  At the close of registration the four divisions with the largest waitlist will create a fifth team if a coach is available.  It is also possible for coaches to take on an eleventh player by taking the next available player on the waitlist.  Registration dates and times are recorded so the waitlists will be rosters on a first come first serve basis.

Note that you MUST register in the grade division that you wish for your child to play in.  For example a player may request a coach and/or teammate in a grade level higher and "play up" in that division; however, players may not play "down" a grade level.  It is important that any players playing up still input their correct grade level during the registration process.
